How Can I Trust God in Difficult Times?
Brian Drummond • 2025 • 2-minute read
Life includes spiritual hilltops and deep valleys. In seasons of change and challenge, Psalm 4 offers a steady pattern for bringing our fear, frustration, and uncertainty to God.
A Pattern from Psalm 4
David calls upon the Lord. He is honest about his circumstances, but he does not allow uncertainty to become the final word. He remembers that God hears him, chooses obedience, points others toward the Lord, and finds joy, security, and rest in God’s presence.
Seven Ways to Trust God in a Difficult Season
- Call upon God in difficult and uncertain circumstances.
- Ask how God may use the circumstance for good.
- Place your trust in the Lord, even before you see the outcome.
- Bring your frustration to God and receive His hope and help.
- Continue obeying what God has already made clear.
- Let your circumstances become an opportunity to share your faith.
- Find your joy, security, and rest in the Lord.
Psalm 4 does not pretend that hardship is easy. It shows us that peace comes from knowing who holds us while the hardship remains.
Reflection
What circumstance do you need to bring honestly before God today? Which of these seven practices is He inviting you to begin?
Prayer
Lord, hear me when I call. Help me trust You in what I understand and in what I cannot yet see. Give me the courage to obey You, the grace to point others toward You, and the peace to rest in Your care. Amen.# How Can I Trust God in Difficult Times?
